The large size planetarium in Rio de Janeiro was installed in 1998. Its heart consists of a UNIVERSARIUM Mark VIII planetarium projector. After nearly twenty years of reliable service, the Mark VIII got a comprehensive upgrade. Electronic parts have been replaced with such of modern design. A completely new control system including software gives the user better functionalities and more flexibility. The ZEISS technicians opened the Starball and planet projectors to inspect all parts and refurbished the illumination systems. Now, the Mark VIII is ready for another 20 years of service.
