JUNE STARTS WITH A HALO Taken by Göran Strand on June 1, 2016 @ Oviken, Jamtland, Sweden

Yesterday on the 1st of June this beautiful halo emerged for a couple of hours during early afternoon. I was out scouting for new photo locations when I saw that a faint solar halo started to form. I drove to this church to get a nice foreground together with the halo. This is the new church of Oviken, Jamtland, Sweden. It was built in 1903 - 1905.

MARS, SATURN, GALACTIC CENTRE Taken by Ray Butler on June 1, 2016 @ Co. Galway, Ireland

At latitude 53N at this time of year, the night sky is in permanent twilight, and these constellations only just scrape over the southern horizon.

So Ive never attempted such a shot before - and frankly did not think it would succeed as well as this.

But generous exposure, accurate tracking, and a site free from light pollution (Mace Head) help a lot.
