Antiquities Minister Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty declared today that the statue of the 18th Dynasty king "Amenhotep III" was found in a house of "al Nakhl" (Palm) village in Edfu – Aswan Governorate.
Aswan archaeological area, added Eldamaty, has received a report from the General Prosecutor's Office about finding the statue while breaking in a house of a drugs and arms dealer. An archaeological committee was formed immediately to examine the statue and authenticate it.
Eldamaty also ordered that the statue is to be transformed temporarily to the museum store in Edfu for restoration and conservation works before being showcased in one of the Egyptian Museums.
Commenting on the statue itself, Nasr Salama, General Manager of Aswan archaeological area said that it is made of black granite and very well preserved. The statue's height is 150cm long and it represents King Amenhotep III standing, wearing a short skirt and "Nemes" (head and neck cover) forwarding his left leg, in the traditional position of kings in Ancient Egypt. The statue also carries a number of important inscriptions at the center of the waist belt, behind the back and on the base representing the names and titles of the great King.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Ministry of Antiquities is to receive two archaeological objects from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after repatriating them from Austria and Germany… Stated Dr. Eldamaty, Minister of Antiquities.
General Manager of the Ministry of Antiquities' Repatriated Antiquities Department, Ali Ahmad affirmed that the two pieces were smuggled outside Egypt and they are: a 26th Dynasty Ushabti for "Hr Iraa" which was seized while two Austrian citizens were trying to sell it. The Ministry of Antiquities succeeded to repatriate it in collaboration with the INTERPOL, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Egypt's Embassy in Vienna.
The second object, added Ali, is a fragment of a Middle Kingdom Stela, known by "the stela of the dog" which is extracted from the tomb of King Wahankh Intef II and was displayed in Munich Museun. The objects will be displayed in the Grand Egyptian Museum after its opening.

THE FOX FUR NEBULA Image Credit & Copyright: John Vermette

This interstellar canine is formed of cosmic dust and gas interacting with the energetic light and winds from hot young stars. The shape, visual texture, and color, combine to give the region the popular name Fox Fur Nebula. The characteristic blue glow on the left is dust reflecting light from the bright star S Mon, the bright star just below the top edge of the featured image. Textured red and black areas are a combination of the cosmic dust and reddish emission from ionized hydrogen gas. S Mon is part of a young open cluster of stars, NGC 2264, located about 2,500 light years away toward the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros).
