An incredible location to capture Zodiacal Light while enjoying a beautiful, crisp autumn morning.

Planetarians and powerdome users from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will meet in Laupheim at the Planetarium on Monday and Tuesday the coming week. Together with the staff of the Laupheim Planetarium we invite powerdome users to cover aspects of planetarium operation and show production in a relaxed workshop setting. We are looking forward to introducing the latest powerdome version with new features, new plug-ins, and an improved WebInterface. We hope to exchange user experiences, share stories and discuss expectations and challenges on the planetarium control.

The hydrogen in your body, present in every molecule of water, came from the Big Bang. There are no other appreciable sources of hydrogen in the universe. The carbon in your body was made by nuclear fusion in the interior of stars, as was the oxygen. Much of the iron in your body was made during supernovas of stars that occurred long ago and far away. The gold in your jewelry was likely made from neutron stars during collisions that may have been visible as short-duration gamma-ray bursts or gravitational wave events. Elements like phosphorus and copper are present in our bodies in only small amounts but are essential to the functioning of all known life. The featured periodic table is color coded to indicate humanity's best guess as to the nuclear origin of all known elements. The sites of nuclear creation of some elements, such as copper, are not really well known and are continuing topics of observational and computational research.

ORIONID METEOR/DUST TRAIL Taken by Gary on October 22, 2017 @ Fort Davis, TX

Another very bright (-2mag)Meteor in the shoulder of Orion near Bellatrix with intense rainbow colors. Canon T4i, 50mm f2.8, iso 6400, 20s. exp. full field and cropped close along with next image of the dust trail that lasted for several minutes. Also had wide field second camera, Canon T6i, 6.5mm f3.5, iso 6400, 30s exp that captured the meteor with zodiacal light all the way to the Milky Way. Date was 2017/10/22 UT 11:29.

QUICK SOLAR OUTBURST

A small eruption blew a bright, disjointed stream of plasma into space (Oct. 18, 2017). The source of the blast was just out of sight beyond the edge of the sun. Images from SOHO's coronagraph instruments show a bright loop of material heading away from the sun near this same area. The video, taken in extreme ultraviolet light, covers just two hours of activity.
