I like astronomy, archaeology, photography, music and drinking a lot of tea. I hate politics. Something that annoys me: that I shall not respect the permanence, and to take me by what I'm not. The best sign: VIRGO. The worst: the health. The best: adapt and know how to get ahead. AURORAL ARCS JAN 27 Taken by Alan Dyer on January 27, 2017 @ Churchill, Manitoba
A fine display last night from Churchill, Manitoba, on Jan 27, despite the tapering off of the impact from the coronal hole earlier in the week and a Kp index of only 2. The auroral arc and oval was well-defined and got quite bright about 8:30 to 9:30 pm Central Time as the auroral arcs brightened from east to west. The display then weakened but always covered much of the sky. A time-lapse taken over 3.5 hours showed waves of aurora pulsing down from the north. But the display never re-brightened significantly. However, it put on a good show for our guests at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre, on a clear windless night at -20° C.
