SCINTILLATING SIRIUS Taken by Tom Wagner on March 2, 2017 @ Waterloo, Iowa

Many years ago I thought of observing the scintillating (twinkling) of a bright star like Sirius. Take a pair of binoculars and focus on the star then wiggle the binocs. The star will appear to be a line shifting through the entire rainbow of colors.

Tonight I thought of trying to capture the scintillations through the colors using a camera. It worked. I focused on infinity, set the shutter on B, opened the zoom wide open (f 3.5), zoomed all the way in (250 mm) and set the ISO to 12800, opened the lens and wiggled the camera.
