COMET C/2016 R2 PANSTARRS Taken by José J. Chambó on February 4, 2018 @ New Mexico, USA
Comet C/2016 R2 (PANSTARRS) photographed on February 4th 2018 during its conjunction with the Pleiades open star cluster (Messier 45). The comet deploys a long blue tail inside our Solar System composed by carbon monoxide ionized because solar wind, whereas that blue nebulosity around star cluster are clouds of interstellar dust (visible for whole image) enlightened by brightest stars. The image is a mosaic composed by three tiles filling a field of 7 x 2 degrees.
